CVMA members volunteer at many events and clinics across the Tri-State to support the needs local organizations.
On December 16th, 2012, the Cincinnati Veterinary Medical Association hosted its 19th annual Canine Corps Health Clinic. The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash Campus (formerly Raymond Walters College) in the Veterinary Technology Building hosted the event again and it was a huge success. We want to send a special thanks to VCA College Hill and Dr. Ketring for hosting the even in past years and to Dr. Goecke and the University of Cincinnati for their generosity and support.
Veterinarians specializing in ophthalmology (Dr. Kuonen), internal medicine (Dr. McElravy), dentistry (Drs. Auvil and Russell), dermatology (Drs. Gordon, Foust and Tabacca) and surgery (Dr. Hinkle Schwartz) were on hand to perform exams in their respective disciplines. Dr. Pete Scheifele and his audiology team from the UC FETCHLAB again participated to perform audiology examinations. Drs. Gwen Steffen and ]ane Goecke generously donated their time to perform the physical examinations on the canines. Idexx Laboratories generously donated a CBC/Profile to each dog.
The technician student volunteers from UC Blue Ash escorted each canine participant and kept things running smoothly. Dr. Susanna Hinkle Schwartz organized the event, but with wonderful assistance from Jane Goecke and a meeting and events planning student from UC.
The goal of this event is to provide prophylactic care and health screens to the canines who work so very hard to protect us (of course with the help of their human partners). There were 46 working dogs and their handlers in attendance. Many dogs were healthy, but the screening did find some hidden diseases, including a splenic mass. The handler of this dog has first hand knowledge of the dangers of a bleeding splenic mass and is very appreciative of our event. She has repeatedly stated that we have saved her canine partner’s life. The event was a great success due to everyone’s hard work!
As a sponsor of CVMA, you'll receive numerous benefits as well as the satisfaction of supporting Cincinnati's premiere veterinary association.
